Hyatt Strives For Value Based Safety

If you ask Phil McNew, Hyatt’s Operations Director, he will tell you “If Hyatt’s Safety and Accident Prevention Program is to succeed and be self-sustaining, it must be part of a grass-roots safety culture because safety is not simply a training issue, it's a performance issue."

At Hyatt we don’t believe safety is something that is imposed on the workforce by management – it is a cooperative process in which everyone participates to make the work environment safer.

“Ideally Hyatt would like to see its Safety and Accident Prevention Program evolve and mature to a point where the employees themselves implement the process, observing each other and providing non-threatening feedback to strengthen safe behavior” commented Phil.

It's an approach that's good for morale because everyone's on the same page, speaking the same language, in a safety culture in which employees mutually support and comply with.
